First, I must apologize. The real world has come between me and the intertronz world. I promise it won’t happen again.
So much has happened since I’ve been away I don’t even know where to start, so we’ll go with college football. First though congrats to the Blackhawks and their fans for winning the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately though, they won the Cup over a month ago when they beat San Jose in overtime of game 3 in the Western Conference Finals. The rest of the world, however, had already moved on to the French Open, the World Cup and the upcoming U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. To make matter worse, the game winning call, which is generally legendary, was completely botched. I didn’t watch the game or any of the coverage after the game. I have to venture a guess, though, that it was the only such coverage of the Cup because I’ve seen absolutely nothing since in the national media. Even when you win, you lose.
Now, on to the UDC:
Big 10 – or 11 or 12 or whatever they’re up to now. Regardless, adding Nebraska is huge for the conference. Not only does it add a legendary program, but it also adds a championship game, in Indianapolis no doubt. The only question left is how the divisions break down. I’ve seen some people place Penn St, OSU, and Michigan in the same division. I don’t see how that’s healthy for the conference. When the SEC split in their 2 divisions, they broke their teams up perfectly. Auburn/Alabama in one division and Tennessee/Florida in the other. LSU and Georgia weren’t really that good at the time. They also locked in one rivalry game pitting a team from division, to play every year:
Tennessee/Alabama
Auburn/Georgia
Florida/LSU
etc..
Anyway you slice it, the additional revenue the 12th team brings in is great. The Big “I’ve lost count” is up.
Missouri- These guys are like the decent looking chicks in high school. You know the ones who always ran with the popular girls, was a cheerleader, and had lots of friends. However, when it was time to pair up for the dances or the hotel parties, these girls where left trying not to stare as all their friends hooked up and they were left feeling uncomfortable having to watch. I guess we can add Kansas to that list too as it looks like they don’t right now either. They’re down and it looks like when the come up, it won’t be that great.
Lane Kiffin- First off, let me say it. SUCK IT LANE!! Call me bitter or call me naive to think he wouldn’t jump ship at the first shot he got or whatever, I don’t care. I couldn’t help but smile when the sanctions came down on USC. To make it even better, when he was asked in January about the pending sanctions, he balked at the fact mighty USC would get the beat down. To make it even better, now that the punishment has been delivered, he completely denies having idea about what was going on. Uhhh….OK. Joe McKnight shows up on campus in his “girlfriends” Escalade last year and the story explodes, yet nobody had any idea that Reggie Bush was driving a car and living in a house that he obviously couldn’t afford. Sure. I’ll buy that. With his apparent inability to miss the incredibly obvious infractions, it’s only a matter of time before they find themselves in the same scenario. The noble thing to do would be to release all recruits and current players to the schools of their choice. Let’s hope they all choose UCLA, and beat that clown into the ground.
